Experience the Siege in Genneper House
A special piece of Limburg history: The Genneper House. In the permanent exhibition '1641 - Experience the Siege', we bring this ruin to life. Once a mighty fortress, the Genneper House played an important role in the Eighty Years' War. Due to its strategic location in the delta of the rivers Maas and Niers, it was besieged nine times in 50 years.
While history books mainly focus on the lives of those who made history, this exhibition brings out the stories of the people. Together with MOXIE we designed and produced five audio stories and an animated film, supported by historical sources, paintings, prints and archaeological objects. Listen to the personal stories of Frederik Hendrik, the soldiers, peasants around Gennep, the Crosiers in the monastery of St. Agatha and the residents of Gennep.
