Jebel Buhais Geology Park

Interactives and
an Immersive Film

In the middle of the desert in the United Arab Emirates, you will find a surreal structure: the Jebel Buhais Geology Park, designed by Hopkins Architects. It is a place where you can look directly into the history of our planet.

Ninety-three million years ago, something extraordinary happened in Sharjah: the oceanic plate was forced over the continental shelf. This geological rarity caused ancient layers of earth to rise, forming mountain ridges. Erosion then caused the earth to open up, providing a unique window into nearly 100 million years of our planet’s history.

A visitor centre has been set up at this special location, where the geological importance of Jebel Buhais is explained through film and interactives. We created an immersive, all-encompassing film that traces the entire process. The film is projected on a large semicircular screen and is accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack.

The interactive displays we developed explain geological concepts such as alluvial fans, magma chambers and the dating of earth layers, making them accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages.
