The Lisboa, Stories of Macau
An Immersive Glimpse into Macau’s Heritage
The Lisboa, Stories of Macau brings together centuries of history through imaginative storytelling, animation and illustration. Each tale has its own visual style, guiding visitors through an immersive journey where legendary figures, iconic landmarks and rich cultural traditions come to life. The exhibition opens with a dazzling 20-metre-wide immersive animation, capturing the island’s colourful history, from its days as a fishing village to its rise as an international trading hub.
From glimpses of daily life at Saint Paul’s to the glamour of the Lisboa Hotel, the exhibition blends humour, artistry and heritage. Harriet’s diary reveals the buzz of multicultural life under Portuguese administration, while the stories of the A-Ma Temple are shared by a wise old monk. Playful games and interactive models allow visitors to experience history first-hand. They can test their luck and strategy as they trade goods overseas, explore the diverse architectural features of the Ruins of Saint Paul’s through projection mapping by matching symbols to spiritual cards, and even open a 3D reconstruction of the landmark. MCW has also transformed Macau’s theatres and streets into engaging digital experiences, complete with films, personal stories, karaoke and the opportunity to record a scene as a souvenir.
This immersive world invites visitors to step into the city’s vibrant past and experience moments of wonder that bring the city's spirit to life.
