The University Museum of Bergen

The University Museum Through 200 Years

For more than two centuries, the University Museum of Bergen has grown into one of Norway’s foremost research institutions. Across 200 years, it has assembled a collection of nearly five million objects, one of the largest collections in the country. Together, these objects capture the defining moments of the modern era: social change, technological innovation, scientific breakthroughs and evolving worldviews.

To celebrate its bicentenary, 200 members of staff have each contributed to telling this remarkable story by selecting objects, stories and perspectives. Together, they reveal how the Museum has collected and safeguarded knowledge on behalf of society, and how society has continually shaped the Museum.

For this exhibition, MCW designed and developed a dynamic digital timeline that brings this carefully curated selection to life. Visitors can scroll through the Museum’s colourful collection, exploring stories across time. We brought an extraordinary archive of history to their fingertips.
