Museum Prinsenhof Delft
William of Orange
Is Here!
Museum Prinsenhof in Delft is inseparably connected to William of Orange. The most important exhibit in the collection is the building itself. The famous bullet holes in the wall remain silent witnesses to the assassination of William of Orange by Balthasar Gerards on 10 July 1584. With this exhibition, the museum brings a pivotal episode in Dutch history to life in the very place where it happened.
Through shadow plays, visitors witness what happened in this remarkable building, as if they were there themselves. Bringing the past back to life. Most striking is the murder of William of Orange, depicted at the exact location where it happened. In the gallery of family portraits, four atmospheric illustrated animations delve into the turbulent family life of William of Orange. At the end of the exhibition, visitors can sing the Wilhelmus in the Chapter House, thanks to a full karaoke setup.
Tablets featuring the ideals and beliefs of William of Orange, many of which remain relevant today, invite visitors to share their own opinions. Topics such as freedom of religion and freedom of expression are once again under debate. The story of William of Orange still gives pause for thought.
